Update from mSecure Team

Hi everyone! I have just gotten a response for the ticket I submitted last night to mSecure. The representative in contact with me alleges that the issue only pertains to users that were syncing to the mSecure Cloud. I hope some of you find that helpful. Nonetheless, I will be switching after ten years as I find it unacceptable that this was not confirmed earlier.

i used to be synched to the cloud but I have turned that off to no sync at all. I am changing passwords and I am not sure if I can put them safely in the unsynched version of the app. I agree this is a mess but it made me think with AI how safe is anything we digitize?  what company can you count on? Anyone could have a breach.

does anyone have any suggestions of who to switch to  and does anyone know how difficult it is to get the data moved over

@richard

it is very difficult to move over the msecure data. If it is ONLY simple account data, exporting via the desktop app to csv is the biggest chance for succes. Even better would be that competitors implement annimport-functionality of the msecure-vault. In case your vault contains also a lot of attachments (photos/photoscans, pdf’s etc) it’s impossible to automate the process. It will be a painful manual move then. This scenario will hid pro users specifically hard. It will take days, maybe weeks to achieve that. And whom are we going to send the bills to?

solution = simple though: msecure should explain what is going on. NOt chicken out when things go wrong. Very dissappointed here. Want to describe this company, but can’t use the words that come up my mind here.

I'm presuming compromised and proceeding with the nuclear option. Too much risk. Another annual subscription to be eliminated. Best of luck to those who remain.

Same here. I had a lot of older information such as expired debit cards which I am not too worried about. Also some accounts I never use and don't care about that have OTP to my mobile, so may leave them be as a 'honeypot'/early warning for anyone attempting to authenticate (will only catch the the stupid of criminals though).

I'm seriously considering using an excel spreadsheet on my local NAS, isolating from the internet and putting a seperate long password on this that I write down and store in a safe.

Tin hat now on!

Hi

Anyone had any update from support?

 Last heard on this forum yesterday was that it was just folks who synced with the mSecure cloud that were exposed?

Thanks

@Eltoro

looks indeed like that, so you’re probably safe as long as you never synced with msecure cloud.

Why the silence from hq? No idea, but this silence simply means eol for mseven and its products. Not a smart move, but maybe they had/have enough of the (legal) responsibilities that came with handling sensitive data. But then they should openly mention that they withdraw their product and it’s over.
