Link Cards

Some websites use a different website for login verification. For example, several U.S. Government web sites use login.gov. In these cases, it would be great to be able to link two cards together so that the first card relies on the linked card for login info. That way there'll be only one card (login.gov) to update whenever there's a password, etc change. The current alternatives (I think) are to enter the login.gov ID & PW on each card that uses login.gov, and/or look up the second card (login.gov) manually and enter it on the first web page.

Hi Geoffrey,

Thank you for your feedback! We have talked about having some type of record linking in mSecure for quite some time now, so what you are talking about here may be related. Before I assume that, however, can you give me more details on your actual workflow?

For example, you mention your record with login.gov, and I’m assuming that is a Login type record which you use for storing the credentials for that account. Is that correct? If so, how are you currently getting your credentials from mSecure to the website? If you are on an iOS device, are you using either our built-in web browser or Safari’s AutoFill feature?

Once I understand the workflow better, I can talk to you more about the feature and get it added as a feature request if it isn’t already on our list.

Hmm! It looks like I never answered Mike - mSecure's question from 5 years ago. My humble apologies!

The Login.Gov web site has improved over the last 5 years. Specifically, it no longer needs linked records in mSecure.

  • Yes. I have the login.gov record with appropriate credentials stored in mSecure 6.1.9. with the URL: https://login.gov
  • In macOS 26.1 I use Safari's AutoFill feature
  • In System Settings>General>AutoFill & Passwords I have mSecure and Authenticator selected but not Apple's Password.app
  • In Safari, I use mSecure to login to https://login.gov
  • From there I use the "Sign in with LOGIN.GOV" button which takes me to my personal login.gov account page which has  a variety of selection options.
  • The option I use most is a list of connections to U.S. Government web sites which I selected for the list
  • Entries in that list include credentials for each of the my listed web sites, obviating the need for linked records in mSecure
  • Clicking on a list item takes me to and logs me into the specific web site I've selected using the credentials for that specific site in the specific web site's list entry.
In summary, https://login.gov is a front end that allows one to get to any of the government web sites which are linked through login.gov  and included in my personal list. The process is designed as a single point of entry for users of a personal selection from the many independent government web sites, while at the same time establishing, modifying and maintaining  appropriate security controls for each of the many independent government web sites.
