Email Backups

Learn how to create an email backup of your mSecure data

iOS

Create an email backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure
  2. Tap the menu icon
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Email Backup
  5. Tap Continue


A window from the Mail app will appear over mSecure. Make the "To" address for an email address you have access to and tap Send to send the email with the backup attachment. The encrypted backup will then be sent.




Restore from an email backup


  1. Open the Mail app on your iOS device, and find the email with your backup file attached
  2. Tap on the attachment, then tap “mSecure” from the row of apps
    • In order to view the "mSecure" option, you might have to tap on the "More" icon option in the far right of the row of apps and select the "mSecure" option from the full list of Suggestions.
  3. After mSecure is opened, use Face/TouchID or enter your password to unlock the app
  4. Tap the red “Restore” button when prompted
  5. Enter the password that was used to unlock mSecure when the backup was created and tap Restore.


Restoring from a backup file will override any information in your mSecure account, and sync the changes to all signed-in devices if you have the mSecure Cloud enabled.




Android

Create an email backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure
  2. Tap the menu icon
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Backup
  5. Tap "Yes" to create a backup
  6. Close mSecure and open your Files application, where your backups are stored on your device
  7. Open your Internal Storage, then go to your folder titled "mSecure" (or mSecure 5 if you have used a previous version)
  8. Open "Backups" within this folder
  9. Tap your backup and then tap "share", and open this file in the app you use for emails on that device


Once in your email provider's application (i.e. Gmail), make the To address for an email address you have access to and tap Send to send the email with the backup attachment.



Restore from an email backup

  1. Open your email provider application on your device, and find the email with your backup file attached
  2. Download your backup file
  3. Exit your email provider and open mSecure
  4. Navigate to Menu > Settings > Restore
  5. Then, navigate to where your backup is stored on your phone and tap the file
  6. Enter the backup’s password and tap Restore


Restoring from a backup file will sync the changes to all signed-in devices if you have syncing enabled.




Mac

Create an email backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure
  2. Click "File" in your Menu bar at the top of your screen
  3. Click "Backup"
  4. Select a location to save this backup (i.e. your desktop), then click "Backup"
  5. Close mSecure and open your Mail application, or a browser, then log into your email's inbox
  6.  Create a new email
  7. Click the Attachment icon (paper clip) and select your newly created backup, then click "Choose File"


Once the email is created, make the To address for an email address you have access to and tap Send to send the email with the backup attachment.



Restore from an email backup

  1. Open your email provider application and find the email with your backup file attached
  2. Download your backup file to your Desktop
  3. Close the Mail app, and open mSecure
  4. Enter your mSecure password, or use Touch ID if available, to open the app
  5. In the top Menu bar, click "File", then "Restore"
  6. Select the backup file you downloaded that is located on your Desktop, then click "Open"
  7. Enter the password that was used to unlock mSecure when the backup was created and select "Restore". If you would like to overwrite the contents of your mSecure database, click the "Replace" checkbox.  NOTE: this will overwrite all current data in your mSecure account. To merge the contents of this backup with your current database, do not check this box.


Restoring or Merging from a backup file will sync the changes to all signed-in devices if you have syncing enabled.




Windows

Create an email backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure
  2. Click the Settings (gear) icon in the lower left corner of mSecure's window
  3. Click "Backups"
  4. Click "Backup Now!"
  5. Select a location to save this backup (i.e. your desktop)
  6. Close mSecure and open your email provider application or a browser - then log into your email's inbox
  7.  Create a new email
  8. Click the Attachment icon (paper clip) and select your newly created backup


Once the email is created, make the To address for an email address you have access to and tap Send to send the email with the backup attachment.



Restore from an email backup

  1. Open your email provider application and find the email with your backup file attached
  2. Download your backup file to your Desktop
  3. Close your email provider's app and open mSecure
  4. Enter your mSecure password to open the app
  5. Click the Settings icon
  6. Go to "Backups" and click "Restore Data"
  7. Select the backup file you downloaded that is located on your Desktop, then click "Open"
  8. Enter the password that was used to unlock mSecure when the backup was created. and select "Restore". This will overwrite all current data in mSecure


Restoring or Merging from a backup file will sync the changes to all signed-in devices if you have syncing enabled.
