Backup and Restore - Mac

Learn everything you need to know about mSecure backups, like how to create and restore from them and where they are located.

Create and restore backups

mSecure 5 can restore from older mSecure backup files ending in .msim. However, mSecure 5 creates backup files ending in .msib.

Create a backup

  1. Open mSecure and choose File > Backup.
  2. You can store your backup file wherever you’d like.

Restore a backup

Open mSecure and choose File > Restore. Once the file selector opens up, select the backup you want to restore and click open.

Restoring from a backup file will override any information in your mSecure account, and sync the changes to all signed in devices if you have the mSecure Cloud enabled.

Backup - Internal/iCloud Backup

  1. Open and unlock mSecure
  2. Click mSecure 5 from the top menu bar (command+comma)
  3. Click Preferences
  4. Click Backups
  5. Click Backup Now

You'll have to make sure that mSecure is enabled in your iCloud Drive settings. Thankfully, it is by default. If mSecure is enabled on your iCloud Dive settings, mSecure will create a backup file in your iCloud Drive account. The file can found at:

iCloud Drive/mSecure/UserID/backups

You can access that file on all of your devices, and the backup will be available in the Backups settings in mSecure on your account on all iOS or Mac devices.
