Backup "Password Doesn't Match - password used at time of email backup doesn't match...." software problem ?

I switched to a new iPhone. Downloaded old version 4 of app again. Then went to mism file in my email (as I had backed up before I switched phone) and when I try to restore I get the message above....which is wrong; I have only ever used the same password on the App - it's the only one I absolutely remember contonuously and have a separate record of as all else is in the App. Anyone else had this problem ? Hoe do I get my data out of the backup file ?
